Signing in and account security

Passwords, Google, passkeys and two-step sign-in for your VPress account — and how visitors sign in to your site.

Your VPress account is the one you use for the dashboard. It's separate from the accounts visitors have on your websites: being signed in to one never signs you in to the other.

Ways to sign in

  • Email and password — at least 8 characters. Confirm your address from the link we email you before you sign in for the first time; trying earlier sends a fresh link.
  • Continue with Google, on the sign-in and sign-up pages. A new address creates an account; an existing account is linked only once its email address has been confirmed.
  • Sign in with a passkey — your device's fingerprint, face or screen lock instead of a password. Add one on your account page first (see below).

If you forget your password

  1. 1On the sign-in page, press Forgot?.
  2. 2Enter your email address and press Send reset link.
  3. 3Open the link in the email and choose a new password. If the link has expired, ask for another one.

Turn on two-step sign-in

With two-step sign-in, a password alone is no longer enough: after it, you type a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. A stolen password can't get anyone in.

  1. 1Open Account from the menu under your name, and find Two-step sign-in.
  2. 2Press Turn on and enter your password.
  3. 3Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, or type the key shown under it. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and press Turn on.
  4. 4Save your backup codes: press Copy codes and keep the ten codes somewhere safe. Each one works once, and they're shown only this time.

From then on, sign-in asks for the code after your password. Tick Trust this device for 30 days on your own computer to be asked less often. If your phone is gone, choose Lost your phone? Use a backup code.

  • New backup codes replaces all your codes, and the old ones stop working. It asks for your password, and so does Turn off.
  • After 10 wrong codes, sign-in pauses for about a quarter of an hour.

Passkeys

Under Passkeys on the same page, Add a passkey saves one for the device you're using. Give each a name so you can tell your laptop from your phone; you can rename or remove them later.

How visitors sign in to your site

People who buy, enroll, book or join on your site have an account on that site only — they never see VPress. They sign in at /account/sign-in without a password: they type their email address, press Email me a code and enter the 6-digit code we send. A code works for 10 minutes, and they stay signed in for 30 days.

If your plan includes Sign in with Google, a Continue with Google button appears under the code form as well. There's nothing to switch on.
