Running a community
A members' network on your site — profiles, a feed, follows and mentions — and the tools to moderate it.
Community, in the Engage part of the sidebar, gives your site's members a social space of their own at /community: profiles, a member directory and a feed of short posts. You need the editor role or above to run it.
What members do
- Sign in to your site, choose Join the community and pick a Handle — the name after the @ — with a few words about themselves if they like. Their name and photo come from their account on your site.
- Write posts of up to 2,000 characters, like them and reply. The feed shows Everyone, or only the people they're Following.
- Follow other members, mention them with @, and get notifications — with a daily email of anything they haven't seen, which they can turn off.
- Report a post, or block a member they'd rather not hear from.
The feed also notes when someone joins, and when a member earns a course certificate. In their profile settings, members can Leave the community, which deletes everything they posted there.
Settings
- Who can read it — Everyone, or Only signed-in visitors. Either way, only people who joined can post.
- Members can post — turn it off to make the community read-only.
- Introduction — a few lines at the top of the feed.
- Hide a post after this many reports — reports from different members hide a post until your team decides. 0 turns this off.
- Email new reports to — who hears about new reports.
Moderating
Reported posts wait under Reports. Hide takes a post out of view and Restore brings it back; Remove deletes it for good; Keep it dismisses the reports. Under Members, Suspend hides a member's profile and posts from everyone else and stops them posting; Lift suspension undoes it.
