Broken links and redirects
See which addresses on your site lead nowhere, and send visitors to the right page instead.
Broken links, in the Site part of the sidebar, lists the addresses visitors asked your site for and found nothing at — a renamed page, a mistyped link, an old URL from before you moved. You need the editor role or above.
What's on the list
Nothing is crawled. Each time a visitor gets a "page not found", the address is noted with how many visits it has had, when the last one was, and the page that linked to it (Linked from) — or Typed or bookmarked when there wasn't one. The most-visited are at the top.
- Addresses only robots ask for, probing for weaknesses —
/wp-admin,/.envand the like — are left out. - Anything after a
?in an address is ignored, so one broken page is one row. - The list holds up to 500 addresses. Once it's full, new ones aren't noted until you Dismiss some.
Fixing one
There are three ways: publish a page at that address, correct the link on the page it came from, or redirect it.
- 1Press Redirect… on the row. The Old address is filled in for you.
- 2In Send visitors to, enter a path on your site, such as
/new-page, or a fullhttps://address. - 3Leave Permanent on unless the move is temporary, and save.
Redirects have a tab of their own, showing how often each one has been used. Add redirect makes one for any address, before anyone has hit it.
